GETNEWS.CO.ID – Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operations for Child Protection (PP Tunas) serves not only as a protective instrument but also as a transformative policy that will reshape Indonesia’s digital landscape by limiting industry access to 80 million children nationwide.

The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, conveyed this during the peak event of the MCDA Journalism Awards (AJK) 2025 at Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday, Nov. 19

She emphasized that PP Tunas will not be implemented immediately. Careful preparation is required to ensure the regulation can be applied effectively.

“There will be a transition, along with adjustments and education for local governments as well as children,” said Meutya.

On the same occasion, Meutya highlighted one of the winning works in the online media category, written by Irawan from Kompas.com.

The story of Deta, a child from South Sulawesi who became a victim of bullying after criticizing smoking, was raised as a real example of how vulnerable children are in the digital space.

Meutya stressed that Deta’s experience is not merely a local case but a global issue requiring serious attention.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs, Ismail, stated that the Ministry’s Journalism Awards serve as a platform for recognizing journalists who have been witnesses and pioneers in strengthening public digital literacy.

Ismail reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an inclusive and child-friendly digital environment.

The AJK 2025 recorded 329 journalistic works submitted by 209 journalists, reflecting strong enthusiasm from the press. Journalists are regarded as strategic partners of the government in delivering educational messages and advocacy aligned with children’s best interests.

The representative of the AJK 2025 Jury, Hendrasmo, expressed appreciation for the quality of the submissions. He noted that they met high journalistic standards.

Hendrasmo emphasized that participating journalists have proven their relevance and resilience amid technological disruption by continuing to produce informative and educational works.
