JAKARTA — A member of House Commission XIII, Mafirion Syamsuddin Rogo, strongly condemned the fatal shooting of three Jayawijaya Agriculture Office employees in Muliama District, Highland Papua, characterizing the ambush on unarmed civil servants as a severe human rights violation.
The three victims were killed by an armed insurgent group while delivering livestock assistance to remote indigenous communities in the interior region.
Mafirion highlighted several critical points regarding the incident:
- Non-Combatant Status: The victims were unarmed civilians performing essential public welfare and agricultural aid services, with no involvement in armed conflict.
- Call for Decisive Action: Security forces have been urged to conduct a comprehensive investigation and prosecute all perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.
- State Protection Obligation: The lawmaker emphasized that state authorities must guarantee safety for civil servants operating in high-risk zones to prevent fear and operational paralysis in public service delivery.
”The government must take firm and measured action against those who intentionally take the lives of innocent civilians,” Mafirion stated on Thursday, September 10, 2026, adding that all citizens have an equal right to live securely without fear of terror.
