Prabowo at a Press Conference: Subsidized Fuel Maintained, the Common People a Priority

JAKARTA – The policy of maintaining affordable fuel prices for the common people was one of Prabowo Subianto’s key assertions during the Red and White Cabinet press conference. Amid global pressures that have triggered energy surges in many countries, the government has chosen to maintain subsidies for the majority of the population while ensuring national stability remains.

In a working meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (April 8, 2026), Prabowo outlined the achievements of his administration, which has been in office for almost a year and a half. “In our first year, it cannot be denied that we have achieved tangible milestones,” he said.

He assessed that various global challenges, including geopolitical conflicts and economic pressures, have been successfully addressed with measured policies. These achievements, Prabowo said, are not mere claims, but can be calculated mathematically and directly seen on the ground.

The President also reminded people of the three global threats highlighted by the United Nations: food, energy, and water. “The fundamental problems for the country are three things: food, energy, and water,” he said. Indonesia is considered to have a resource advantage, although it must be maintained to prevent it from becoming a vulnerability in the future.

In the context of energy, Prabowo emphasized his support for the common people through fuel policy. “We will maintain subsidized fuel for the common people. We will maintain it for 80 percent of our people,” he said. He added that wealthy groups will be directed to use non-subsidized fuel. “You’re already rich, asking for more subsidies, right?” he asserted.

Based on economic reports, the national situation is considered stable despite global turmoil. “It turns out our situation is quite secure. There are challenges, there are difficulties, but we are able to face and overcome them,” said the Head of State. He even stated that Indonesia is relatively safe amidst global conflict.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi delivered a briefing that lasted approximately four hours and was attended by the full government. The President, he said, is encouraging increased efficiency and productivity. “We must work together harder, faster, more productively, and more efficiently, reducing leakage,” he said.

This directive emphasizes the government’s commitment to maintaining people’s purchasing power while ensuring that development achievements continue.***
