VLADIVOSTOK, Russia — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok on Thursday, September 3, 2026, reaffirming the strategic partnership between Jakarta and Moscow across trade, Pacific connectivity, and maritime security.
The bilateral talks, held in a working lunch format on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), highlighted Indonesia’s intention to broaden economic cooperation with Russia while leveraging shared Pacific positions to expand regional trade channels.
Addressing the forum, President Prabowo emphasized the historical depth of the relationship, which spans over five decades, and noted its evolution into a strategic partnership.
”Russia remains a crucial partner for Indonesia,” President Prabowo stated, emphasizing the strategic value of the Eastern Economic Forum as a platform to build broader regional connectivity.
Highlighting Indonesia’s geography as an archipelagic state and its shared Pacific orientation with Russia, President Prabowo underscored maritime cooperation and logistics infrastructure as key pillars for future economic expansion.
