VLADIVOSTOK, Russia — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a keynote address at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on Thursday, September 3, 2026, inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin for an official state visit to Indonesia while outlining plans to double bilateral trade volume beyond its current target.
Addressing business leaders and foreign dignitaries in Vladivostok, President Prabowo reaffirmed Jakarta’s non-aligned foreign policy—refraining from joining military pacts while maintaining open economic pathways with global markets—and framed the Pacific Ocean as an economic bridge connecting Eurasia and Southeast Asia.
Highlighting the complementary structure of both economies, President Prabowo pointed to Russia’s capabilities in energy, agriculture, fertilizers, and technology alongside Indonesia’s industrial expansion, consumer market, and gateway position within ASEAN.
Supported by the implementation of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement, the Indonesian head of state called for concrete deliverables to double trade values from nearly $5 billion recorded in 2025. Targeted sectors for joint investment include:
- Energy & Resources: Renewable energy initiatives, downstream industrialization (hilirisasi), and space exploration joint ventures.
- Infrastructure & Health: Transport logistics development, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and expanded educational exchange programs.
Closing his remarks, President Prabowo formally invited President Putin to visit Indonesia, reinforcing historic ties between both nations.
