NORTH LOMBOK, Indonesia — The clean water supply outage that paralyzed Gili Trawangan’s tourism sector since September 3, 2026, has begun to resolve after regional law enforcement intervened to reactivate production pipelines on Thursday evening, September 10, 2026.
The breakthrough came after the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police Chief directly inspected Gili Trawangan and met with officials from PT TCN, the private operating partner of local utility PDAM, requesting an immediate resumption of water supply to meet basic community needs and prevent economic collapse across the resort island.
Lalu Kusnawan, Chairman of the Gili Hotel Association (GHA), confirmed that desalination production resumed around 5:00 PM WITA on Thursday, with pipeline distribution normalizing across hotel networks in phases following initial treatment cycles.
Key developments in the resolution process include:
- Preventing Mass Closures: Re-establishing utility flows halted imminent shutdown plans for up to 10 hotels and resort properties scheduled to cease operations over the weekend.
- Inter-Agency Governance: The NTB Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) and police authorities pledged to oversee PT TCN’s regulatory licensing to establish permanent legal compliance.
- Stakeholder Relief: Local tourism operators expressed gratitude to the NTB Provincial Government, North Lombok Regency, Ministry of Tourism, and NTB Police Chief for expediting emergency resolution.
”With the reactivation of this water distribution system, hotel operations can return to normal,” Kusnawan stated, emphasizing the need for permanent legal and structural solutions to safeguard the island’s long-term tourism economy.
