JAKARTA — Newly inaugurated Minister of Finance Prof. Suahasil Nazara pledged to maintain a healthy and credible state budget (APBN), committing to strict fiscal discipline while ensuring public spending directly supports President Prabowo Subianto’s key national priorities.
Speaking in Jakarta following his swearing-in ceremony on Monday, September 14, 2026, Suahasil affirmed that the Ministry of Finance will strictly manage the annual budget deficit to remain below the legally mandated threshold of 3 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Suahasil clarified that budget efficiency must not be misinterpreted as arbitrary expenditure cuts, emphasizing a targeted Spending-for-Impact policy framework:
- Maximum Measurable Output: Ensuring every allocated rupiah yields clear, quantifiable public service outcomes and priority program funding.
- Direct Public Benefit: Aligning social spending to cushion cost-of-living pressures and spur direct economic growth.
- Fiscal Stability & Coordination: Maintaining structural deficit caps under 3 percent of GDP while strengthening cross-sectoral policy alignment with Bank Indonesia.
The Finance Minister highlighted transparent communication and consistent policy execution as vital pillars to anchor market expectations and maintain sovereign creditworthiness.
