CENTRAL LOMBOK, Indonesia — The Indonesian central government, in collaboration with regional authorities and tourism stakeholders, will rebuild the iconic Sade Traditional Village in Central Lombok following a destructive fire that damaged several traditional Sasak structures.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed her deep empathy and condolences to the affected indigenous community, affirming that the reconstruction process will actively involve local residents to preserve the village’s cultural heritage and architectural integrity.
Speaking on the recovery strategy, Minister Widiyanti emphasized that restoring Sade Village is both a humanitarian priority and a cultural necessity:
- Community-Led Restoration: Indigenous craftsmen and local residents will directly guide construction to ensure authentic Sasak architectural techniques and materials are utilized.
- Inter-Agency Coordination: The Ministry of Tourism is partnering with the NTB Provincial Government, local authorities, and private stakeholders to fund and expedite infrastructure recovery.
- Cultural Preservation: Reconstruction plans will strictly preserve the traditional layout, thatched roofing (alang-alang), and heritage significance of the historical hamlet.
As one of Lombok’s premier cultural tourism destinations, Sade Traditional Village plays a vital role in showcasing local Sasak traditions to domestic and international visitors. Government intervention aims to safely restore community housing while restoring local tourism operations.
