INDONESIAN FOREIGN DIPLOMACY was just served a rather awkward reality check. While Jakarta was busy celebrating its inclusion in the global superpower-backed initiative dubbed the Board of Peace (BoP) for Palestinian peace, a blistering “yellow card” was issued straight from UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese.
Speaking at a public discussion hosted by Amnesty International Indonesia on Wednesday (21/10/2026) night, Albanese pulled no punches in exposing the foundational flaws of the BoP created under UN Security Council Resolution 2803. Rather than a genuine path to peace, she called it a tragic setback for international rule of law!
“The BoP was flawed from the start. The only body within the international framework today that can decide on matters of war and impact peace is the UN Security Council. We are moving from a rule-based order toward a lawless situation driven by a single most influential power,” Francesca asserted pointedly.
Analyzing the “Peace Board” Paradox: Genuine Solution or Superpower Rubber Stamp?
Francesca Albanese’s sharp critique delivers a heavy blow to Indonesia’s assertive “independent and active” foreign policy push under President Prabowo Subianto:
- Bypassing Palestinian Self-Determination: Albanese reminded the audience that constructs like the BoP are often engineered by global superpowers without placing the fundamental right to self-determination of the Palestinian people as the core pillar.
- Ignoring the ICJ “Holy Grail” Ruling: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has already issued a definitive, binding legal ruling: Israel’s occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem is illegal. Israel is legally obligated to withdraw its troops, dismantle illegal settlements, and stop exploiting natural resources unconditionally. Yet, instead of enforcing the ICJ ruling, global powers are busy setting up compromised new “boards”!
- The Satirical Side of Indonesian Diplomacy: On one hand, Indonesia roars loudly in support of Palestinian independence, challenges MSCI rating threats, and redefines domestic laws. On the other hand, Jakarta naively rushes to sign onto a BoP framework that erodes the authority of UN international law itself.
BOARD OF PEACE VS ICJ RULING MATRIX
| Evaluation Dimension | Board of Peace Initiative (Resolution 2803) | ICJ Mandate & UN Framework (Albanese) |
|---|---|---|
| Legal Foundation | Resolution 2803 shaped by single superpower hegemony. | ICJ Legal Ruling: Israeli occupation is fully illegal. |
| Resolution Focus | Political compromise & post-conflict management. | Immediate troop withdrawal, dismantling settlements, & full statehood. |
| Indonesia’s Role | Active participant/partner in the Board of Peace. | Cautioned against legitimizing structures that weaken UN rule of law. |
Conclusion: Don’t Become a Superpower Rubber Stamp!
Francesca Albanese’s warning should serve as an urgent wake-up call for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Palace. Indonesia’s genuine desire to support Palestine must not be exploited by superpowers seeking a “legitimacy stamp” for custom-built peace bodies. True Palestinian freedom begins with enforcing international law unconditionally—not through geopolitical lip service called the Board of Peace!
