SEMBALUN, Indonesia — Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, serving as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), met with local agricultural collectives in Sajang Village, Sembalun, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to review post-earthquake recovery and rural water infrastructure projects.
The visit, held at Bale Kita NTB, focused on the rehabilitation of a 450-meter agricultural irrigation canal restored under UNDP climate resilience and disaster recovery frameworks following the catastrophic 2018 Lombok earthquakes.
Accompanying the Crown Princess were West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Dr. H. Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Vice Governor Hj. Indah Dhamayanti Putri, and NTB National Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) Chair Hj. Sinta M. Iqbal.
During direct discussions with the Sajang Farmers Group, delegates evaluated how stabilized irrigation flows have extended seasonal planting cycles and mitigated water supply fluctuations for high-altitude crops in the Mount Rinjani foothills.
”The experience of Sajang Village demonstrates that post-disaster recovery is not merely about restoring past conditions, but about building long-term economic resilience,” Governor Iqbal stated during the dialog.
