EAST LOMBOK, Indonesia — West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Vice Governor and Chairwoman of the Provincial Women’s Organization Cooperation Body (BKOW), Hj. Indah Dhamayanti Putri, urged educators and students to establish schools as safe spaces to prevent physical violence, sexual harassment, bullying, and underage marriage.
Speaking during an interactive dialogue with students and faculty at SMAN 1 Terara in East Lombok Regency, Vice Governor Indah—popularly known as Umi Dinda—emphasized that educational institutions must actively protect students to ensure their personal and academic growth.
Key directives delivered during the educational advocacy visit include:
- Role of Educators: Teachers are called upon to act as mentors and guardians rather than strictly academic instructors, ensuring early detection of student distress.
- Student Commitment: Students were urged to foster peer unity, eliminate discrimination, and focus on academic achievement before considering marriage.
- Anti-Violence Ambassadors: Youth are encouraged to act as active ambassadors in rejecting all forms of physical abuse, verbal harassment, and institutional bullying.
Provincial authorities reaffirmed that safeguarding schools from violence and reducing early child marriage rates remain central pillars of West Nusa Tenggara’s long-term human development strategy.
