NORTH LOMBOK, Indonesia — The Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (BTNGR) has temporarily closed the Torean climbing route in North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), effective Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The emergency closure was implemented following a land and forest fire (karhutla) that broke out in the Bukit Setampol area within the Torean Resort zone.
National park officials confirmed that while the Torean route remains restricted to prevent accidents and facilitate firefighting efforts, alternative climbing routes remain operational:
- Closed Trail: The Torean hiking route is strictly off-limits to all trekkers until fire mitigation and safety audits are completed.
- Alternative Routes Open: Other official ascension points—including Senaru, Sembalun, Timbanuh, Aik Berik, and Tetebatu—remain open under normal operating protocols.
- Firefighting Operations: Joint ground teams consisting of park rangers, local authorities, and volunteers are actively monitoring hotspots and containing flames in Bukit Setampol.
BTNGR urged all mountain guides, porters, and prospective trekkers to comply with safety guidelines, avoid restricted zones, and report any signs of smoke or fire along active trails.
